June Meeting and lots of embossing

Shetland Scrapbookers met yesterday and we had a lovely morning making a layout with embossed letters and embellishments.

Julie led us through this lovely vintage layout which included making a frame and distressing the edges.  The gate and flourishes were cut on the Cricut using the Heritage Cartridge.  The letter U is covered with tiny little photographs - a great feature.

Then Julie demonstrated how to cover our chipboard letters and embellishments with embossing powder and stamping into them when still hot to create some lovely textures.

Members set to to distress their edges and left them drying in the sunshine which appeared through the morning!  The rest of the morning was spent to the sound of the Cricut and the heat guns working overtime!

Journalling the Every Day

At our May meeting Jennie showed us how to make a Journal from just a few pieces of paper, envelopes and tags. We made board covers and then bound it with the Bind It All.  Most of us made a finished book measuring 6" x 6".

The intention is to use these little journals for noting down some of the every day things in our lives over the next few months and we will all have the chance to view the different books (with their decorated covers) at our AGM in February.

Here are some of the books made on the day:

The Bind It All was in constant use!

A busy morning!

Voxter Weekend

Members of Shetland Scrapbookers gathered for a weekend of scrapbooking, chat and techniques at Voxter on the 11th/12th May.

The weather on the Saturday was overcast and dull and rain was threatening but we didn’t care as we were going to spend two days scrapbooking with no one disturbing us. Bliss.

After unpacking all our bits and pieces everyone set to in either finishing off previous classes, some of us had done a little pre planning  whilst Joan and Sonia had more ambitious projects to keep them occupied over the next two days.

Sonia was on a big catch up session of the family photos so over the weekend produced a large set of layouts.  I think she nearly filled an album. Very impressive.  Joan’s project for the weekend  was scrapbooking members of the family  tree.

I think by the end of day one she had completed 8. What was really amazing was that  Joan could go that far back in her family history and even over the weekend there was 3 generations of the family happily crafting.

During the day we also managed to have a demo, from Julie,  on using the melting pot and gilding flakes. Margaret came to the rescue here as Julie’s glue had solidified. Next time must remember to bring spares when away from home.

We were unlucky with visitors however, Catherine came and spent the day with us and there was lots of ooh’s and aahs from her all day as Sonia took her through making a mini book which  the club made in Aprils meet.  Let’s hope she has enough pocket money to buy  all of the things on her list. She has been warned.

Sunday bought more members along and we had to use two of the  rooms on the ground floor so everyone was popping back and forth to see what was going on and to check on how many cakes were left.

The club's Cricut and Cuttlebug die cutting machines were kept busy all day as we had the chance to really see what they could do and with members sharing  their own embossing folders and dies we all made a few extra to take home for other projects.

It was a shame no visitors came along but we did have to compete with 2 car boot sales and teas but Dianne, her niece and  mum spent the afternoon with us so we did get some.

Margaret and Joan set to too show them some techniques and create some small mini books to take home with them.  So the heat gun came out, punches, embossing powders and the peerie lass became adept at the cricut machine.

It was a really good weekend with  lots of tea and lovely cakes made by the members and although  it was a shame we did not see more visitors we had a good laugh.

We still left things at home we could have used but all of us managed to use quite of bit of the items we did bring although it didn’t look like it when we packed to go home. Someone must remind us to do this again.

One of Margaret's completed layouts - see the next post for other layouts!

Thank you to Julie for the words and Jo, Julie and Margaret for the photographs.

March 2013 : Alcohol Inks and Colour Challenge

Welcome to our new blog!  And our very first post is about our March meeting when Julie led us through a layout using Alcohol Inks.  Members inked acetate to make either leaves or flowers for the layout as well as enough to cut out a title as well.  She also showed  us how to stamp a border around a photograph directly onto the layout and how she had made the other elements on her page.

It being Easter Saturday we also enjoyed hot cross buns with our coffee!  Not all members managed to finish their layouts during the three hour session, so we will have an update post showcasing the layouts after our next meeting.

Jennie also explained the Colour Challenge.  She has taken a challenge from the CSI Challenge Site (CSI stands for Colour, Stories and Inspiration).  Not only are we going to be prompted in the colours, but also in what we put on the page and and how we journal.  Everyone seemed keen to take part so it will be great to see the entries at our August meeting.

Here is the challenge:

See you all at our next meeting which is on  the 27th April, 2013 when Jennie will be taking us through a mini-book and wallet.
